Compassionate Connections Counseling Therapists

Stephanie Davis, PhD
I enjoy working with couples and have received extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). It is one of the best methods for helping couples address and effectively resolve a myriad of issues - from infertility to infidelity.  One thing I like about EFT is that it helps couples transform their relationships, helping them find a deeper connection and a sense of emotional safety and support. This transformation positions them to effectively handle future challenges in a way that strengthens, rather than threatens, their relationship.

I have also received training in one of the top treatments for trauma, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. I have loved using this with clients.  It has been amazing to see how quickly and effectively it can helps people recover from their past experiences and move forward in life, feeling like they are in control.

While not in the office, I enjoy being with my toddler and husband. We like spending time outside, traveling, and cooking. We also enjoy gardening, especially when the produce is ready to be picked!

Distress and disconnection within relationships are difficult to navigate on our own. Couples and families tend to seek better communication, deeper connection, and greater overall relationship satisfaction. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist ready to compassionately assist individuals, couples, and families towards the solutions they desire. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, sexual addiction, divorce adjustment, grief and other general clinical presentations.

I received my Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2007 from the University of Southern Mississippi.
I believe in the powerful influence of connection. When there is safety and sensitivity bonds are formed and hearts can heal.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist, and it is my passion to help strengthen and breathe life into marriages and families. I am a mother of 6 great children and 2 grandsons, and the more my family grows, the more I am grateful for the opportunity to help other families find peace and love within themselves and within their family relationships.

I specialize in treating victims of trauma of all types using EMDR. I have completed the advanced training for EMDR and am in the process of becoming certified. This is an evidence-based treatment that offers immediate help to those that are struggling with the effects of trauma.

I also specialize in treating couples using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and have done extensive training and am hoping to be certified within the year. This is an evidence-based treatment that helps to build strong connections between partners that are long lasting. I have experience treating depression, anxiety, eating disorders, ADHD, and many other challenges is also within my experience to treat. I know that seeking help with the intent to change for the better takes courage and strength and those that take that step are brave indeed!

I am the wife and mom of three. I enjoy cooking homemade meals and eating even more. My  creative outlet is arranging flowers and I have even been lucky enough to do the flowers for some weddings. You will usually find me spending my time with my family, enjoying what the outdoors has to offer or just reading books on the couch.

Professionally I have a few specialties. I specialize in women's issues, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, body image, birth and labor trauma, and postpartum depression. I love working with parents facing various parenting struggles. Parenting is extremely hard, and I can be the support you need to navigate it. I especially enjoy navigating the early years with parents, specializing in baby sleep, potty training, and eating support. Finally, I believe in strengthening marriages before they begin. During premarital counseling I will help strengthen your marriage to withstand the trials that are sure to come.

My passion and purpose as a therapist is to support and strengthen families--one individual, relationship or system at a time.  In therapy, I bring my own lived experience, the power of proven models, the latest in brain science, and traditional mindfulness practices to help you and your family find healing and health. If you are struggling with marital problems, parenting issues, behavioral challenges, family conflict, emotional disturbances like depression or anxiety, or if you just want to tune-up your relationships so they run smoothly, I can help. I believe in the inherent power and potential of people and in learning by experiencing.

As a mother of four with a marriage of almost 20 years, I have practical experience in the brutal, beautiful, messy, progress of life and relationships. I also bring to therapy a studied understanding of the principles that shape the human experience and use these as a guide in the therapeutic journey. I use Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Internal Family Systems and Interpersonal Neurobiology to help you heal your internal and external connections and create health, wholeness, compassion and vitality in your relationships and within yourself.

A great marriage is not when the perfect couple comes together. It is when the imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences (Meurer, 2000)

There are times in life when we yearn for a do-over or a fresh start--to find hope and healing for ourselves and those we love. I believe effective therapy is about providing genuine acceptance, optimism, and hope. I will ‘hold your heart’ in my hands, helping you find strength for a fresh start and the skills to build relationships that are emotionally healthy, intimately connected, and lasting with self or others. I assess, create goals, and partner with clients using research based practice guidelines. My goal is to empower clients with hope, knowledge and skills to ensure continued success beyond the therapeutic process. I specialize in premarital and marital therapy, pornography use, LGBTQ-related issues and co-occurring anxiety, depression, grief/bereavement, divorce/relationship loss adjustment, and trauma/PTSD. My favorite therapy approaches are Emotionally focused couples therapy, EMDR, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and I have had intensive training in those models. I have taught at Utah State University and recently guest lectured on Sexuality and Diversity at Utah Valley University.  I am the mother of four children ages 15-27 and recently relocated from Florida to Utah to pursue my Ph.D. And while I love the mountains, I am most at home near the ocean.

I do a limited number of speaking engagements each year, typically to church groups. I have spoken on such topics as marriage and family relationships, suicide, anxiety and depression, pornography, and sexting.  I am also a trained facilitator for Love and Logic parenting courses. If you would like a speaker with an emphasis in empowering couples and/or individuals to overcome personal obstacles to improve their relationships with self or others, please email me at

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe these relationships are the most important of those we will ever experience.  They have the capacity to bring about the most joy, fulfillment, and life satisfaction.  I am passionate about helping couples strengthen, deepen, or heal their marriage relationship.  I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), designed to help create the kind of emotional safety that allows each partner to be truly seen, heard, and connected.  I also work with individuals and families with a variety of concerns such as depression/anxiety, women’s issues, sexual intimacy, spirituality, blended families, pre/post divorce, and life-stage adjustment.  The ability to overcome many life stressors, addictions, or past trauma can be accessed by experiencing the healing power of secure attachment and loving bonds.  I have a blended family consisting of 9 children, a daughter and son-in-law, 2 grandsons, 2 golden retrievers, and an amazing and supportive husband.  I enjoy photography, crafting, cake decorating, hiking, learning, and meaningful conversations.
